The previous post was just to get an idea for something else I have in mind - moving another site to WordPress. And I’m leaving it up for a while so I can refer to it.
Unfortunately, it’s a waste of your time. Sorry!

The things we look for

Every now and again I take a look at my stats with a particular interest in the search terms. I’m curious about how people found my various blogs using search engines. What were they looking for that led them to me? The answer is always alarming.
I’m less interested in “how many” than I am in [...]

From desktop to laptop, MS to Mac

I’ve been preoccupied the last day or so. My Powerbook arrived so I’m getting use to using an Apple product. And this is a laptop, replacing my old Toshiba Wndows laptop (which actually replaced itself about a year ago). Excluding my work computer (an ancient, pre-WW II Dell), I’ve been using my desktop PC.
Isn’t this [...]

Spam as a reflection of andropause?

The nature of the spam that still finds its way to me is changing and I can’t help but wonder if spammers are trying to tell me I’m getting older.
It use to be they would urge me to enhance my, umm … manhood, so to speak. This is no longer the case.
Now they are concerned [...]

The low reach new depths

Some things are so contemptible there really aren’t any words for them. Here’s some spam that got through my filters:
Evacuees from Hurricane Katrina still file into the Baton Rouge River
Center, located on the banks of the Mississippi River, even as others
leave for temporary housing with relatives, relocate to a new state
through relief organizations, or independently [...]

To: Hon. Rahim Jaffer, Member of Parliament, Edmonton—Strathconacc: Right Hon. Paul Martin, Prime Minister of Canada
I’m am writing to make you aware that I support the Make Poverty History [...]

My favourite Live 8 moment

This likely won’t mean anything to anyone outside of Canada. And it may mean nothing to anyone who isn’t familiar with Ontario (where I grew up). But my favourite moment from Live 8 came from Neil Young.
He was coming off stage after the Canadian Live 8 show’s finale. The camera followed him as he was [...]

"We want the promises to be kept and we will make the firm commitment to a timeline when we know that we can deliver." Canadian Finance Minister Ralph Goodale (echoing the position of Prime Minister Paul Martin’s Canadian government, a G8 country).
I have a difficult time believing the target of 0.7 per cent of GDP [...]

It has been raining all day here in Edmonton. In southern Alberta, it’s been raining like a sonofabitch for days and days and days.  Where a few years ago drought was an issue here, now it’s flooding.
So it goes in Alberta.
Meanwhile, I got a spam e-mail with the subject line, “Summer means no cellulite.” And [...]

Hmm. So if this bit of time travel business is accurate (New model ‘permits time travel’), can we then say the less you know, the better? Is ignorance power? Can you effect change as long as you don’t know anything about the thing you’re changing?
"As long as I don’t know if Dad’s alive, I can [...]
