Amazed by how much more there is to know

by Bill Wren on July 5, 2010

I feel better now — and at least for now. I finally changed something that has been bothering me for a long time.

My header use to say Writelife and below it, “Musings on the craft of writing, technology, social media and whatever else comes along.” Apart from being a bit pretentious with words like “musings” and “craft,” it really said, “No clue here about what this is about!”

I always have a hard time writing about my stuff and about me. By comparison, writing for others is easy.

My header now says, “Asking questions and discovering how little I know.” It strikes me that that truly reflects what this blog is about.

I write about writing, yes. And I write about technology and social media. But not always. (I have an obsession with the brain right now.)

Sometimes I write things like, “Do this to be better …” And sometimes I’ll even have a, “Tips to improve your what-have-you …” But over the long haul, what I post is primarily questions because I just don’t know. (I have suspicions though!)

I’m always amazed by how much more there is to know. You learn one thing and it shines a light on a bunch of other stuff you know nothing of, so there’s even more to learn now.

The truth is, the black and white world doesn’t exist at Writelife. The multiple and contradictory world does. And that’s why it’s primarily questions and eye widening realizations about how little I know.

And that’s why I like it. ;)

I like the new tagline. It's expressive of your writing tone and personality, and I think that's a good route to take on a largely personal blog. :) Very specific, topical taglines work better on blogs that are a little more editorially structured and information-focused, I think.

Thanks. No matter what blog I start, it always ends up a personal one like this. Unless it's someone else's blog — then I can fit the parameters etc.

And I did want a tagline that was more personal and less … I don't know. Less what I thought search engines might like? ;)

I've a complaint to lodge with SEO I think. And that's another post …
