Lyrics in search of some music

by Bill on August 12, 2009

This was meant to be lyrics for a song. Really. (Anyone want to write music for it?) I vaguely hear a rhythm and structure in my head but I can't write music. The structure, by the way, is AAB-AAB-AAC-A.

Yes, it's light, even silly, and there are probably more than a few cliches in it. But for what it's worth ...

Josephine

You can be unkind to me,
see your life as tragedy,
the world as an atrocity,
love a plague of poverty,
still I will feed your cat.

I could own a company,
spend money philanthropically,
get blessings at the Holy See,
be all the world could want of me,
still I will feed your cat.

Life's not for frowning.
Won't you cheer up?
Love is the circus.
Why not cheer up?

Josephine, you'll always be
queen of all that I might be,
my treasure chest and magic key,
the star I follow endlessly,
that's why I feed your cat.

We could rule the world between
the two of us, dear Josephine,
and as we did it would be seen
it's love that gives the world its sheen.
It's why I feed your cat.

Cats are for purring,
people for love.
Cats want a warm bed,
people want love.

Josephine, it seems to me
you're fudging with our destiny
to light the earth so all can see
all that we are, all we could be.
That's why I feed your cat.

Josephine, you can be sad
but there's a smile I know you had
and I know you can be glad
when you lighten up a tad.
Till then I'll feed your cat.

Josephine,
why be mean?
I have seen
a world
on fire,
alight,
your smile
so bright
Josephine.

You can tell me where to go,
call me a fool, like I don't know,
but in time's endless ebb and flow
our destinies are one, and so
I will feed your cat.
I will feed your cat.
Yes, I will feed your cat.
