You may intend social media for a small group of friends but once you hit submit, it's out there for the world to see. Taken out of the broader context of you as an individual, a picture or tweet can paint a very different picture of you. This means that there are certain things I don't blog, tweet, or post about and I'm actually quite okay with that. Nice post and very true. I probably should have been more clear. I didn't mean we should censor ourselves to look "nice" for employers. I meant that as an example of who might see us. My real point is how do we want to be seen, by anyone - even friends? In a lot of cases, too, what we put online doesn't really represent us very well because we sometimes use it as a place to vent or be silly and, while that's a part of us, it isn't the whole of us.
