It appears the people here are a giddy lot, at least compared to the rest of Canada. According to a poll done by L’Observateur of 2,300 Canadians (as reported by the CBC):

New Brunswick and the rest of the Atlantic provinces — excluding Nova Scotia — scored highest in terms of personal contentment … The survey suggests money doesn’t have much to do with happiness at all, as the western provinces scored lowest while their poor cousins in the east scored highest.

This reminds me of an earlier post of mine, Let’s Get Happy. What the CBC story doesn’t mention is that people in New Brunswick rate spirituality’s importance in their lives higher than other provinces. Another version of this story also mentioned that were women a province, they would be New Brunswick. Men would be British Columbia.

It’s also worth noting, as someone who has just moved to New Brunswick from Alberta, that while New Brunswick was happiest of the provinces, Alberta came in eight in a list of ten. (B.C. ranked 6th.)

Perhaps the more wealth you have, the less happy you are? More likely … the more you bust your ass getting wealthy, the less contented you are.
