I avoid writing by writing

There are many ways by which I avoid writing and one of those is by writing. This means that while I write, I don’t write what I should be writing.

This may be the biggest downside of blogs. For all the good things about them, they make it easy to fritter your time away posting about whatever passes through your head rather than work on the writing you should be doing, or could be doing.

This post is a good example. I’ve a number of things I could be working on, but I’m doing this.

Also, as you can see, I’ve made changes to this blog’s look. Playing with headers and templates and stylesheets is another great way to waste time that probably could be better spent.

And it’s much more interesting and fun.

(And an aside … Thanks to rebecca, I came across this: About Morality. I’m really posting the link because it’s something I want to read through and I have to rush out now. I use my blog to help my memory, which needs a lot of help.)

You’re preaching to a very large choir, I’m sure. As proof, I offer this sad example of the one thing lower than “blogging instead of Really Writing”: writing comments on other people’s blog posts.
