It’s interesting to me that this blog is called Writelife, implying it is about writing – actually, it purports to be about writing. And yes, it is about writing even if occasionally it concerns it only in a roundabout way.

What I find intriguing is that, though not necessarily obvious, it’s really about reading. But, as I’ve mentioned before, there’s no way that reading and writing can be separated (at least not that I can see). I simply can’t imagine how anyone who writes can do it if they aren’t also a reader.

My links

I can’t speak for other people who blog, but when I look at the right column and see my Blogroll and Links I think, “There’s a wee bit of horseshit in that.” I think there is an implication in those links that they are helpful suggestions from me to visitors, recommendations of other blogs they may find interesting.

While that is one reason they are there, and I do offer them up as blogs worth a gander, they are really there as bookmarks for me. I hate using browser bookmarks; I prefer to go to my own blogs and click my links. I lose track of too many good blogs and other sites if I don’t. So while my right column is there for anyone who would like to use the links, the truth is it is really for me.

Where’s the time?

During the week, especially ones like last week, I never have any time to go through the sites and blogs I’d like to. Well, that’s only partly true … it’s a combination of time and energy. It’s sometimes not enough to have time. If I really wanted it, I probably would have time to visit them all.

But by the time I can, I haven’t the energy or inclination to trawl the Internet. I just want to sit back and read or watch a movie. Usually, it’s only the weekend when I feel like I really do have the time to scribble and read and trawl blogs.

I think, for me, reading and watching movies, the process of letting go of the external word and drifting into a compelling story (via words or images, doesn’t matter – the story is the thing) … this is a kind of meditation for me.

Hey Bill, thanks for the blogroll listing (even if it is your own bookmarking method) — interesting stuff here on your site, and I look forward to visiting again…

I found you through Neil’s Citizen of the Month blog. You were one of the blogs he listed in a post and I thought it had a familiar sound. When I went to your blog, I thought, “This seems REALLY familiar.” Then I realized had your book “Writing the Romantic Comedy.” I picked it up a few years ago (really liked it too). I’m a big fan of roamntic comedies - especially My Man Godfrey.
