Let me be honest … The purpose of this post is really to direct you to this post, Arriving where we started, on my other blog. Let me explain why:

You may have noticed I’ve been doing a poor job of maintaining Writelife. It’s supposed to be about the business of writing for business - you know, getting a paycheck for writing text for Web sites and copy for the endless the things that need copy (radio, print, TV etc.).

But there’s a lot more to writing than that. Still, I wanted Writelife to have some focus but, frankly, I can’t keep focused on my focus these days. I think there are two reasons for that.

First, I’ve simply run out of gas on this topic. And if I’m honest, I really think writing is writing is writing. If you pay attention to the people who will be reading what you’ve written and how they will read it - print, online, script form - you really don’t need any rules. And you don’t need any advice beyond, "Imagine you’re the reader. As a reader, how well does this read?" If the answer is "poorly," rewrite it.

Secondly, the nature of the work I’m doing these days has altered, at least temporarily, and I’m not very involved in the marketing and technical writing I had been doing. In fact, the writing I have been doing is of the most mind-numbingly dull variety.

So my interest has wandered …

But not my interest in writing. I’m still in love with it and still obsessed with it. If anything, I wish the demands of life would go away so I could just squirrel into a hole and start writing. Just to see what I’d come up with.

And on the subject of writing and blogs and posts … while I’ve been slack here, in one of my other blogs, Crazy Ass Planet, I’ve been posting away. Not always great posts. Often just little bitchy things. But I think I just did one of my better postings on it and I hope I have the oomph to follow it up, as it lends itself to quite a few.

If you’re interested, it’s the post Arriving where we started and it’s about family, fathers and jazz. Imagine that!
